1. MEMORIAL DAY
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The attachment is a list of soldiers in my company, Charlie Company of the 5th Battalion 60th Infantry of the 9th Army Division, who perished during the time the Division was activated in Vietnam.
This list does not include those who died as members of the other battalion companies such as Alpha Company, Bravo Company, Delta Company, Headquarters Company and Echo Company. Charlie Company was only one of hundreds of companies, and only one of the many battalions throughout Vietnam who suffered similar losses throughout the Vietnam war.
I did not know many of these brothers on this Charlie Company list, but, in another way, I knew them all. Today, remember them and their Gold Star families and friends.
We honor them by reflecting and remembering them, pausing today to thank them for their sacrifice. Please take a moment to reflect upon how we can respect their memory and appreciate the significant price paid by these 58,476 who sacrificed their lives in Vietnam. They made it possible for us to experience the best of our lives today.
Find personal ways to express your gratitude and thanks for their final measure of devotion. Yes, this Memorial Day and future days, live freely and happily as a tribute to those who earned our freedom by their sacrifice.
